Although the marriage formed by Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith broke up a few years ago, the Spanish actor maintains a special relationship with his stepdaughter, actress Dakota Johnson. Now, Antonio has revealed the sweet nickname she gave him as a child.
Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith formed one of the most established marriages in all of Hollywood for twenty years. The couple began their romance in 1995 after meeting on the set of the film 'Too Much'. At that time, Melanie already had two children from her previous partners, Alexander Bauer and the now-actress, Dakota Johnson.
After a year of dating, the couple ended up getting married and having a daughter together, Stella del Carmen, who is now 25 years old. Sometime later, specifically in 2014, the marriage shocked many by announcing the sad news that they had made the decision to start their separate ways, divorcing after 18 years of marriage.
However, despite ending their romantic relationship, it is common to continue seeing them together with their daughter or Melanie's children. Over the years, they have proven that they are still a family.
Especially, Banderas and the star of '50 Shades of Grey', Dakota Johnson, have a very close and special relationship, proof of this is the name with which the actress affectionately calls the man from Malaga. And the interpreter has revealed during an interview, who always addresses him as 'Paponio': "I'm 'Papi' and 'Antonio' together, so she always called me 'Paponio'"
With Christmas just around the corner, the actor has confessed that he would love to reunite the whole family again but it is difficult to balance schedules because: "Dakota has become a very busy person, she is working all the time."
Banderas has taken the opportunity to talk about the special relationship he has with Dakota, he remembers with special affection the moment that occurred at the 'Hollywood Film Awards 2019' when she awarded him the Hollywood Actor Award for his role in the film 'Pain and Glory'
"She gave it to me and gave me one of the most beautiful speeches that anyone has ever given me," Banderas admits. "So, I was very grateful to know that she thought that about 'Daddy.'"
