Ben Affleck revealed that he refused to be part of a sequel to Good Will Hunting

“There are ideas about what it could be, but it is not a sequel that we are going to pursue,” the 50-year-old actor responded to the specialized media Variety.

Affleck and Matt Damon catapulted his career by writing and starring in the Good Will Hunting (1997), directed by independent film icon Gus Van Sant.

The film, which also had Oscar winner Robin Williams in its cast, portrayed the life of a young man who finds his talent in mathematics while working as the mayor of a prestigious university.

The story created by those who were then two emerging Hollywood promises became a box office success and received nine Academy Award nominations, of which it won two.

It was Damon who confessed that someone "serious" had offered his friend and colleague the sequel to Good Will Hunting, after being questioned about "the craziest script" they had proposed to him to do.

“I swear that's not going to happen. I couldn't believe what I had heard,” Damon said.

Affleck and Damon are currently promoting the film Air, starring both of them, and a project that has returned Affleck to the role of director, after having done so in films such as Argo (2012) or The Town (2010).

Air is a sports drama that closely follows the business agreement that a Nike employee seeks to reach with the iconic player Michael Jordan for the creation of the Air Jordan footwear line.

Affleck and Damon have a long list of works together, including the films Field of Dreams (1989), Dogma (1999), and Chasing Amy (1997), to name a few.
