Plan B, the actor's production company, along with Annapurna Pictures bought the rights to the story from "The New York Times."
The production company Plan B, co-founded by actor Brad Pitt, acquired the rights - along with Annapurna Pictures - to bring to the cinema "The New York Times" coverage of the history of harassment and abuse of Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein.
Previously, Plan B has produced the films "12 Years a Slave" and "Moonlight", winner of the Oscar for Best Picture in 2017. Annapurna Pictures, founded by Megan Ellison, was behind "The Darkest Night" ( 2012) and "The Invisible Thread" (2017).
The film will be based on journalists Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey's coverage of Weinstein's conduct, The New York Times reported. For their work, they received the Pulitzer Prize this year.
Weinstein had been accompanied by rumors of harassment for 20 years until "The New York Times" and "The New Yorker" managed to put together a series of articles, last October, with testimonies from people who uncovered the producer's history of abuse.
Kantor and Twohey are currently writing a book on the subject to be published by Penguin.
