While she was allowed to indulge in alcohol and cigarettes at the tender age of 9, she was strictly prohibited from enjoying chocolates to prevent potential weight gain.

It's a glaring contradiction, indeed. The famous actress Drew Barrymore was forbidden to savor the delights of chocolate due to the concern that it might cause her to gain weight.

In a recent revelation, the remarkable Drew Barrymore shared one of the most poignant moments of her early life. At just nine years old, she had her first taste of alcohol, a rather unusual habit for a girl her age. The 47-year-old American actress disclosed that her mother permitted her to consume alcoholic beverages but drew a firm line when it came to indulging in sweets like chocolate.

In fact, the granddaughter of the renowned John Barrymore confessed on her personal podcast, "Drew's New," that she used to stash chocolate bars in her closet to keep them hidden from her parents.

In this context, the actress who portrayed Gertie in the globally acclaimed film "E.T." disclosed that she delved into addiction from a very young age, with her alcohol consumption leading to marijuana use at the age of 10, experimenting with cocaine at 12, and ultimately entering rehab at 13 to confront these afflictions.

"I was going to clubs, skipping school, stealing my mom's car, and, you know, I was out of control," recounted the movie star on her podcast.

It's worth recalling that the seasoned performer first began divulging her struggles with addiction in "People" magazine when she was just 14 years old. Now, 33 years later, she revisits this subject.

THE CHOCOLATE BAN

As Drew herself recounts, her mother's restrictions extended to her not being allowed to enjoy chocolate, even though she was permitted to engage in other unconventional activities such as attending parties and driving a car while still a minor.

However, partaking in such a sweet delight was strictly off-limits, as it was seen as a potential threat to her acting career, which often required her to audition for various roles.

But her defiance didn't stop there. The actress revealed that she would sneak chocolate bars from the kitchen and hide them in her closet without her mother's knowledge.

"I would stash chocolate in the cupboard. All the other habits were out in the open, but sugar was the secret indulgence," Drew explained.

FORGIVING HER MOTHER

Reflecting on the tumultuous relationship with her mother, Drew shared that she eventually found it in her heart to forgive her. However, forgiveness was not an easy journey, given the challenging ordeal she had endured for years.

"I'm sure she carried a lot of guilt for creating a 'monster' for years, but I also think she lived with a lot of pain because we didn't speak for a long time either," she remarked.
