Luke Evans discovered Emily Blunt's pregnancy under unique circumstances while they were engrossed in a dramatic on-set confrontation.
The actress had to make an unexpected revelation about her second daughter, Violet, born in June, in order to ensure Luke's caution during a physically demanding stunt.
Their roles required them to perform emotionally charged scenes, including intense physical altercations. As a precaution, Emily felt compelled to confide in her co-star about her pregnancy, ensuring he was aware of the need for restraint.
"One of our most challenging scenes involved a visceral struggle between our characters, a moment of tension that erupts. Out of the blue, Emily leaned in and whispered, 'Be careful because I'm four months pregnant.' I was utterly stunned and replied, 'What?' She chose the worst possible moment to share the news, yet I'm grateful to have been one of the first to know," Luke shared during an appearance on the British television program 'This Morning.' He also reflected on the ramifications of keeping the secret.
"I had to know because our scene involved me lifting and hurling her across the room as dictated by the script. I said, 'Thank you for letting me know,' but she displayed unwavering professionalism throughout and handled it with finesse," he added in the same interview.
Last June, Emily Blunt welcomed the baby she was expecting during the film's production, named Violet, a testament to her marriage with John Krasinski. She also has a daughter named Hazel. After taking her necessary post-pregnancy rest, she made a public appearance with Luke Evans at the London premiere of the film. For this role, Luke had to shed his distinctive Welsh accent, while Emily seamlessly switched back to her British English.
"No one mentioned I had to alter my accent until the first take, and I was taken aback when I saw Emily continuing to use her native English accent. Initially, I believed it was impossible to change my accent, so I stayed quiet," Luke humorously remarked during the same interview.
