Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones recently addressed the challenging situation arising from the harassment accusations leveled against her husband, actor Michael Douglas.
The Hollywood star faced allegations from a former employee, accusing him of humiliating and s----lly degrading behavior dating back decades. Zeta-Jones, passionate about defending her husband's innocence, opened up about the emotional toll the accusations took on their family, including their children, Dylan and Carys.
In an interview with the Sunday Times magazine, Zeta-Jones shared the devastating impact the accusations had on her and her children. She expressed her deep concern about the psychological effects of such serious allegations and how it prompted her to question certain moral principles she once considered absolute. Despite the lack of evidence supporting the accuser's claims, the family found themselves thrust into the harsh spotlight of a painful public debate.
"My children and I were devastated because of these accusations. And I also ended up questioning many of those moral principles that I believed to be absolute. This woman appeared out of nowhere and attacked my husband with nothing to hold on to but her weak testimony, but I still had a very important conversation with my children and my husband and I told them all: 'If more things like this come out, it will be very painful,'" she revealed.
Zeta-Jones highlighted the family's only consolation during this challenging time - the knowledge that there was no substance to the allegations, and time would reveal the truth. Despite the lack of credibility in the accuser's story, the negative impact on the family's tranquility was palpable, causing distress and unwarranted media attention.
"The only consolation we had was that we knew perfectly well that there was no news of any kind in their allegations and that time would put each person in their place. And, indeed, that's how it all ended up being. There was absolutely nothing that could substantiate her story," she explained.
Expressing her sadness, Zeta-Jones also reflected on the broader implications of baseless accusations, expressing concern that unfounded claims could set back the progress made by the feminist movement. She emphasized the importance of approaching such serious allegations with evidence and caution to avoid undermining legitimate efforts toward gender equality.
"I find it very sad that people are accused with this lightness and without offering any evidence to support it. I think that for each of these false stories, the movement goes back 20 years in time," concluded the Welsh actress.
