At an event to honor women in Hollywood, the Israeli actress spoke about the injustices and discrimination women face in her industry.
Israeli actress Gal Gadot was honored this Tuesday, along with some of Hollywood's best-known actresses, at an event held by the prestigious French beauty magazine "Elle", in a celebration of women in the film industry.
Gadot, who rose to prominence as one of Hollywood's most famous stars in recent years, thanks in large part to her role in Wonder Woman, also received the honor of appearing on the November cover of the French monthly magazine.
In her speech, Ella Gadot recited a few lines from John Lennon's “Imagine,” as an ironic tribute to the infamous and highly criticized video in which she is seen singing the song alongside other celebrities.
After the laughter died down, Gadot continued to talk about the “Hollywood Diva” stereotype, which she said many women in the industry today have to deal with.
“We've all heard stories about the Hollywood diva, all of us, and I have to say I've been doing this long enough and I've never met her,” she said.
"I feel like she is a mythical creature, because all the women I have worked with, from the cast to the crew to the production office, have been the most hardworking, solid professionals who are focused on making the best entertainment possible," added the Israeli actress.
“On top of that, a lot of women, for a lot of them, the set is just the first shift of the day. Many of us are also mothers and caregivers,” she Gadot noted.
“We work hard because things have to be done. We are not motivated; We are the drivers. I admire how dedicated women are to both their careers and their home lives. We're so amazing that we barely have time for ourselves."
"What I'm trying to say is that we don't feel like we can let go because we're not there yet. Still, for me, I don't take anything for granted," she clarified.
Other actresses who received praise alongside Gadot during the event included Rita Moreno, who will celebrate her 90th birthday next December, Jennifer Hudson, Halle Berry and Judy Comer.
