The RFK Foundation honored the couple for their humanitarian work in challenging societal norms and family dynamics to champion what they believe is right.

Kerry Kennedy, the current director of the foundation and daughter of Robert F. Kennedy, emphasized in an interview with journalist Gustavo Egusquiza that Meghan and Harry earned the award due to their courage in questioning their social circles and family in pursuit of justice.

The couple, visibly happy, walked the red carpet hand in hand to accept the award, expressing gratitude through a recorded speech where they pledged to persist in dismantling "the highest barriers of discrimination and oppression."

The timing of their public appearance is significant as it precedes the imminent release of their documentary on Netflix. Anticipation is high as the documentary is expected to reveal their perspective on the treatment they encountered within the royal family post-wedding.

In released previews, Meghan and Harry reiterate previous accusations, claiming abandonment and betrayal by royal family members. They draw parallels between the media harassment endured by Meghan and the circumstances that tragically befell Princess Diana, Harry's mother. However, the couple refrained from addressing questions related to the upcoming documentary during the gala.

Despite the impending release of the series, Meghan did touch upon her revelations during the interview with Oprah, acknowledging that sharing her experience of suicidal thoughts was a challenging decision. However, she emphasized that it ultimately made her feel less isolated in the long run. The gala appearance sets the stage for what is anticipated to be a candid and revealing exploration of their experiences within the royal family.
