Set for a theatrical release on January 14 next year, the film showcases Ortega as one of the central protagonists, relentlessly pursued by the infamous Ghostface – the menacing murderer armed with a dagger, characteristic of the series.

A notable aspect of this film is the return of original cast members Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette, adding a nostalgic touch to the continuation of the "Scream" legacy.

During a virtual media meeting, Barrera emphasized that the film introduces "a new generation" of characters into the "Scream" universe. The Mexican actress, renowned for her roles in the series "Vida" (2018-2020) and the film "In the Heights" (2021), expressed excitement about being part of a saga she and many others are avid fans of. Barrera noted the film's commitment to maintaining the surprises and unexpected twists that define the "Scream" franchise, emphasizing the team's dedication to paying tribute to its legacy.

Ortega added that "Scream" holds an entertaining and playful aspect for the audience, describing it as a thrilling cinematic game where viewers are engaged in deciphering the identity of the murderer throughout the storyline. The actress, known for her work in the series "Jane the Virgin" (2014-19) and the film "Yes Day" (2021), highlighted the unique appeal of the film's interactive nature.

Reflecting on the significance of casting two Latinas in such a prominent project, Ortega emphasized the pride in showcasing their culture on a global stage. She expressed enthusiasm about being part of a film that holds immense impact worldwide.

"Scream" has been a highly successful horror franchise since its debut in 1996, revitalizing the slasher subgenre under the direction of the late Wes Craven. The "slasher" subgenre centers around menacing killers who systematically target and murder a group of individuals, typically wielding knives, with revenge as a common motive.

While Craven, the mastermind behind "Scream" and the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" saga, passed away in 2015, the new "Scream" is helmed by the filmmaking collective Radio Silence, consisting of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett serve as directors, with Chad Villella listed as an executive producer. The upcoming "Scream" promises to deliver the thrills, suspense, and unexpected twists that have defined the franchise over the years.
