John Wayne and Robert Mitchum in Howard Hawks' Western Masterpiece

On Wednesday, November 11, Andalucía Television is set to air "El Dorado," a western masterpiece crafted by Howard Hawks in 1966.

John Wayne and Robert Mitchum, in El Dorado

Adapted from a novel by Harry Brown, the film derives its name from the town where the unfolding action takes place.

This cinematic gem is the second installment in Hawks' trilogy centered around the theme of a sheriff defending against city criminals, with the other two films being "Rio Bravo" (1959) and "Rio Lobo" (1970).

Starring two cinematic legends, John Wayne and Robert Mitchum, in leading roles, the film also features James Caan and Charlene Holt.

The storyline follows Cole Thornton (John Wayne), a gunman representing powerful landowner Bart Jason, who arrives in El Dorado. Initially tasked with expelling the McDonald family, Thornton turns down the assignment upon the insistence of Jean Paul Harrah (Robert Mitchum), the sheriff of El Dorado and Cole's old friend.

Upon discovering that another gunman has accepted the rejected job, Thornton decides to return to town. His mission: to defend the farmers and aid his friend Harrah, who battles with a drinking problem. Accompanying him is Mississippi (James Caan), a young and adept knife-wielder.
