Julian Lennon, son of the late Beatle John Lennon, expressed his disappointment with the portrayal of an aging John Lennon in the film 'Yesterday.'
The 2019 romantic comedy, written by Richard Curtis and directed by Danny Boyle, took a surprising turn with its depiction of an older Lennon, played by Robert Carlyle, in a Scottish or Irish island scene that left Julian Lennon feeling perplexed.
In an interview on 'Hiking With Kevin' with Kevin Nealon, Julian Lennon shared his thoughts on the film, stating, "I actually loved that movie, 'Yesterday,' until they put in this weird impression of what dad would be like in his seventies and eighties or something, on a Scottish or Irish island." He further explained that the entire movie threw him off, describing the scene as unnecessary and strange.
The film revolves around a struggling musician who, in a world without the Beatles, rises to fame by claiming their classic songs as his own. Towards the end, he seeks advice from an 80-year-old John Lennon who, in this alternate reality, never faced tragedy in 1980 but lived a peaceful life by the sea.
Boyle anticipated that this scene would be polarizing, acknowledging it as the "Marmite scene" among Brits due to its divisive nature. Despite potential controversy, Boyle claimed the film received positive feedback from Ringo Starr, Barbara Bach, and the late Beatle's family.
In a quirky turn of events, a toilet once owned by John Lennon was recently displayed at the Beatles Museum in Liverpool. The porcelain toilet, adorned with a blue and white floral design, originally belonged to Lennon and Yoko Ono's home in Berkshire. The unusual exhibit, loaned to the museum by a man who purchased it at auction in 1989, adds a unique touch to the museum's collection.
Meanwhile, Julian Lennon has found himself in a positive place in life, as he shared with People in September before the release of his latest album 'Jude.' After facing years of tumult, he expressed that he is currently in the best phase of his life.
