Although she was not the first choice, Margot Robbie has conquered everyone as Barbie in the first previews of the film.
It's getting closer to seeing Margot Robbie as Barbie in the long-awaited movie. The Oscar-nominated actress will play the most famous doll in the world in the new film by Greta Gerwig, director of Lady Bird and Little Women.
However, she was not the first choice to play the iconic doll. This was revealed by Robbie herself in a new interview, where she confessed which actress would play Barbie before she took the role.
The actress who almost played Barbie before Margot Robbie
In conversation with Vogue, Margot Robbie spoke about her portrayal of Barbie in the doll's new film and the actress who inspired the character's energy. Thus, she revealed that she was another interpreter who had the characteristics that Greta Gerwig was looking for in the character.
It is none other than Gal Gadot, the star of Wonder Woman, who represents what the director wanted to say with this character. However, she was not available for the role and Margot Robbie ended up playing this new version of the doll.
"Gal Gadot has Barbie energy. Because Gal Gador is so beautiful, but you don't hate her for being that beautiful. Because she's so genuine and honest and so incredibly kind, it's almost naive. Right before that," Margot said Robbie about his colleague.
Thus, with these characteristics in mind, the director went in search of multiple actresses for the role. And Margot Robbie is just one of the barbies that we will see in the film, along with actresses like Issa Rae, Hari Nef, Emma Mackey, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Ana Cruz Kayne, Sharon Rooney and even Dua Lipa.
Although Margot Robbie has conquered everyone with the Barbie previews, it is known that the actress was not the first choice. Before her, the project spent years under Anne Hathaway's name, until the actress left the film. Later, Amy Schumer would play the titular role, although with a different story.
