Kate Beckinsale wore a dress at the actor's birthday party that reminded her of props from not one, but two DiCaprio films, including one in which she also starred.
Leonardo DiCaprio turned 49 in 2023, and he organized a big party in which he supposedly kissed his girlfriend, Vittoria Ceretti, 25, and the many guests apparently lifted him into the air. One gets the sense that DiCaprio is good at balancing the solemn and the frivolous: all that yacht life balanced with excellent work balanced with his philanthropic efforts.
But enough about him and his regrets. What about everyone who went to the party? There were many: Kim Kardashian, Rita Ora, Zoe Saldana, Olivia Wilde, Salma Hayek, Lady Gaga, Chris Rock, Snoop Dogg and, reportedly, Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum.
What to wear to Leonardo DiCaprio's birthday party? The general dresscode leaned towards the 'little black dress' (many guests were arriving from the Baby2Baby 2023 Gala, the biggest night for babies in Los Angeles, and were dressed to the nines).
Kate Beckinsale, however, preferred something a little different to the little black dress. She wore a black dress from The Blonds' fall runway, which came with a surreal belt. She was reminiscent of two fictional gems who have crossed paths with DiCaprio in the cinema.
One is the necklace of square-cut blue sapphires and diamonds that DiCaprio's character, Howard Hughes, gave to Ava Gardner, Beckinsale's character, in The Aviator (2004). The other is the Heart of the Sea, immortalized in Titanic (1997). The Heart of the Sea was shaped like a heart, and the "stone" on Beckinsale's suit was more of an emerald cut.
Who knows if with her Saturday night outfit she was referencing one, the other, both, or neither of the two films, but in any case it reminds us of what the elderly version of Rose said in the legendary alternate ending of Titanic : "Look for treasure in the wrong place, Mr. Lovett. Only life is priceless. And make every day count."
