Alina Habba, the attorney representing former President Donald Trump, expressed her sense of shame and embarrassment regarding her legal profession after the ex-president faced indictments.
Speaking on the Jesse Watters Show on Fox News, Habba addressed the news of a federal grand jury charging Trump with offenses related to the alleged improper withholding of national defense information.
During the interview, Trump's lawyer characterized the impeachment as a diversion from alleged improprieties by President Joe Biden.
She pointed to House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer's intent to impeach FBI Director Christopher Wray, nominated by Trump in 2017, for contempt of Congress due to the purported withholding of documents.
However, this move was retracted by Comer after the FBI agreed to share the requested documents, as reported by The New York Times.
Habba emphasized a perceived coordinated effort, suggesting a distraction tactic aimed at the American public. She conveyed her discontent with the current state of the country, asserting, "I'm embarrassed to be a lawyer right now. Honestly, I'm ashamed. I'm ashamed to be a lawyer. I'm ashamed that this is the state of our country." Habba decried what she perceived as a dual system of justice, labeling it selective persecution reminiscent of "Russian third-world stuff."
Trump's attorney characterized the accusations against the twice-indicted former president as a manipulative distraction, likening it to a "shiny ball" intended to divert public attention. The lawyer conveyed a sense of dismay at the unfolding events, emphasizing the perceived injustice and asserting that such occurrences should not be happening in the United States.
Former President Trump initially aired the accusation on his Truth Social media platform, responding to reports that federal prosecutors were planning to seek a grand jury indictment against him. Trump vehemently denied any wrongdoing, proclaiming his innocence and expressing disbelief that such a situation could unfold for a former president with substantial electoral support.
