Angelina Jolie Reflects, Becoming a Mother Made Me Feel Strong for the First Time

This marks Jolie's fourth venture into performances inspired by traditional childhood stories. Presented at the Sundance Festival, the film, directed by Academy Award winner Brenda Chapman and written by Marisa Kate Goodill, explores a time before Peter Pan inhabited Neverland and Alice ventured into Wonderland.

Depicting adventurous siblings, 'Once Upon a Time' draws from fairy tales, intertwining two of literature's cherished children's characters in a single narrative.

Jolie, 45, and British actor David Oyelowo portray the imaginative parents of Peter and Alice, played by Jordan Nash and Kiera Chansa, respectively. As the family confronts tragedies, the children escape into a fantasy world.

"I feel a deep connection to these fables because of their significance, and it's crucial to expose children to the richness of diversity," Jolie shares passionately. "While I can't portray the main child as an actress, I relish the opportunity to embody the role of the mother, contributing my voice to characters that shape the narrative's rhythm."

In Jolie's cinematic repertoire, diversity consistently takes center stage, and she underscores its pivotal role. Despite navigating weighty family issues in the film, there's a deliberate push to inspire parents to fuel their children's imaginations. "My children are avid readers, introducing me to books I haven't encountered. It's a nourishing experience for us as a family, fostering our evolution," Jolie adds.

As an actress-producer committed to projects with profound messages, Jolie contends that films like 'Once Upon a Time' offer not only joy for younger audiences but also a fresh perspective for the older generation. Confronting global challenges head-on, she asserts, "We possess the power to instigate change and influence societal shifts."

When queried about strength, Jolie delves into her journey through motherhood. "Becoming a mother was the first time I truly felt strong," she confesses. Reflecting on the unique experience of adopting her first child, she emphasizes how profoundly it transformed her life. "Every decision I make has a ripple effect on my children, propelling me to strive for the best version of myself."

In contemplating her future, Jolie signals a shift in focus. "Raising my six children properly is my priority," she asserts. Acknowledging the trappings of awards, money, and fame, she underscores that true happiness lies in a different realm. "I'm currently reevaluating my future, considering my humanitarian work and potential political endeavors. My aim is to be of genuine utility to others."
