Ben Affleck was not happy during his marriage to actress Jennifer Garner, to the point of being one of the reasons why he became an alcoholic.
This was revealed by the actor and director during a devastating interview in an American media.
He noted that he stayed in this relationship for his three children, Seraphina, Violet and Samuel, but that there was no love between them.
Ben spoke openly about what, in his case, made him need to break this relationship.
The Argo director confessed that he “would probably still be drinking” if he remained married to the mother of his children.
“It's one of the reasons I started drinking,” he explained on the Howard Stern Show last Monday.
But why? What happened for him to feel that need to remain hooked on the bottle?
He also told it and without filters of any kind. “I was trapped,” he continued in this interview that has resolved many doubts about his divorce.
As reported by People in Spanish, the actor said that he simply was not happy with the mother of his children. “I thought 'I can't leave' because of my children, but I'm not happy, what do I do?'” he explained. “What I did was drink a bottle of scotch and fall asleep on the couch, which seemed like the solution then,” he said without embellishment.
Words as devastating as they are sincere. Affleck visualized the importance of recognizing when one is not well to avoid taking steps that harm you and the other.
“We had a marriage that didn't work, this happens, with someone I love and respect,” he highlighted.
But it was not a love that made them happy. Even so, they both “tried, tried, and tried because we had children. “We both felt that we did not want this to be the model that our children saw in marriage,” he confirmed, who clarified that today their relationship is cordial and affectionate.
