Through an interview conducted by 'Deadline' to promote the new film 'The Boys In the Boat', George Clooney declared that Matthew Perry was not happy on the set of the hit comedy 'Friends'.
Just as he also revealed about the relationship he had with the American actor, all this because they had known each other since the 90s.
When Matthew Perry was 16 years old, he was looking to be successful and he wanted to achieve it by landing a role in a comedy. By then, George Clooney would describe him as a “cool, fun, funny guy.” Furthermore, he mentioned that one day the actor told him: “I just want to get into a sitcom, he would be the happiest man on earth.”
Some time later, Perry would fulfill his wish by landing the leading role of Chandler Bing in 'Friends'. George Clooney would refer to this comedy as “probably one of the best television series in history.”
However, Clooney confessed that despite what he had obtained, Matthew Perry would still not be happy, because he "did not bring him joy, happiness, or peace." At the time, both actors were working on the Warner Brothers lot, but he recalled that Perry was difficult to watch because “I didn't know what was going on with him.”
Also, George Clooney made it clear that he had no idea about the pills the 'Friends' actor was taking as well as "all the things he talked about, all those heartbreaking things." Therefore, he reflected that money and success do not automatically generate happiness, explaining that “you have to be happy with yourself and your life.”
