Selena Gomez, the multi-talented artist, is set to unveil her much-anticipated line of cosmetics and beauty products, Rare Beauty.
The brand's name echoes her successful album of the same title, marking her return to the music scene and the public eye last year.
In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan magazine, Gomez opened up about the motivation behind venturing into the beauty industry. She revealed that part of her decision stems from grappling with body insecurities and the tendency to compare herself to others, leading her to undervalue her uniqueness.
"I have become more insecure over the years," Gomez shared honestly, acknowledging the impact of lupus, a condition she battles, on her fluctuating weight. "I have had to learn to take comments philosophically and not give this matter more importance than it has."
Gomez's emphasis on physical appearance dates back to her early childhood, having entered the entertainment industry at the tender age of seven. Before attaining pop star status, she was already recognized worldwide as the lead in the acclaimed children's series "Wizards of Waverly Place" on Disney Channel.
"This area has always been part of my life. I have been working in this world since I was seven years old. Then I got older and started working on the series, where the physical image played a very important role in the character," Gomez reflected. Transitioning to the music industry, she acknowledged the heightened significance of aesthetics in music videos and concepts.
However, Gomez candidly admitted that, over time, she found herself in a space where comparisons with others took a toll, causing her to diminish her own value and individuality. Despite the challenges, her journey in the public eye has driven her to create Rare Beauty, a brand that seeks to empower individuals and celebrate uniqueness. As Gomez ventures into the beauty realm, her openness about her insecurities highlights her commitment to fostering self-confidence and challenging conventional standards of beauty.
