Uma Thurman regrets not having starred in this successful franchise

Una Thurman is one of the most talented actresses working today. She began her career as a model at the age of 15 but quickly began transitioning into acting. One of her first roles was in Dangerous Liaisons in 1988, which had Glenn Close and John Malkovicj in the lead roles.

Although Thurman's role was secondary, her time on the screen was significant enough to make a big impression on critics and directors who soon began casting her in other roles. So in 1994 she played Mia Wallace in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction. From then on she would soon become the director's muse, and shine in many other roles.

However, there was one role that Uma Thurman rejected and for which she feels deeply regretful. It was the late 90s when the actress met actor Ethan Hawke on the set of the film Gattaca. After a short courtship, the couple married in May 1998 and in July of that same year she welcomed her first daughter, Maya Hawke.

What Uma had not contemplated is that that same year she would receive the proposal to join Peter Jackson's multi-award-winning The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

In an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the actress revealed that she turned down the role of Éowyn for The Two Towers, the second film in the saga. Thurman acknowledges that it is one of the worst decisions she made in her career, but at the time she had just become a mother for the first time and she felt the need to stay home.

It must be remembered that Jackson's adaptation of The Lord of the Rings was filmed in New Zealand between 1999 and 2000, since the three films were filmed within a year and in multiple locations.

Finally, the character of Éowyn is one of the three most important female characters in the saga. In the film, this character was played by Australian actress Miranda Otto, who gave life to the character in The Two Towers and The Return of the King. In the story created by Tolkien, Éowyn is a noblewoman from the lands of Rohan, who is the sister of Éomer and niece of King Théoden. Her role in the plot is very significant as she is the one who confronts and defeats the Witch King during the Battle of Pelennor Fields.

Without a doubt, Uma Thurman's presence in the Lord of the Rings saga would have turned out very differently and that is something that the actress regrets to this day.
