Gary Goldsmith disagrees with the narrative Netflix chose for his family members.
The final season of The Crown may have been a favorite for fans of the series and critics; but Kate Middleton's uncle, Gary Goldsmith, doesn't think the same. The 58-year-old, who is known for being the "controversial uncle" of the Princess of Wales, has shared his thoughts on how his family (especially his niece and sister, Carole Middleton) were portrayed in the hit series of Netflix, stating that said impersonations were simply "ridiculous and fanciful."
His take on the final season of The Crown came after Goldsmith was a guest on the latest episode of the Daily Mail's "The Crown: Fact or Fiction" podcast (available on Spotify, by the way) released on Thursday, January 11. The podcast examined “Hope Street,” the penultimate episode of the sixth and final season of the Netflix drama inspired by the lives of the British royal family, and Goldsmith said it was unfair how Carole (Eve Best) and Kate Middleton (Meg Bellamy).
"I really enjoyed the first few episodes and the first season of The Crown, but it seems like it just veers off into this fantasy world. There are a lot of parts I don't agree with, and I think the narrative is just trying to make headlines and attract attention." to the audience," he began bluntly.
Later, the Duchess of Cambridge's uncle claimed that the impersonations became so ridiculous and fanciful that he stopped watching the show. "I think people around the world who watch it are seeing this, and they're believing it's true. I'm thinking, 'Am I watching The Crown or is it Coronation Street?'" he continued, referencing the longest-running soap opera. Britain. "I think it's completely made up."
However, the most important revelation came when the show's host, Robert Hardman, asked him if his sister, Carole Middleton (who was portrayed as the person who orchestrated the relationship between his daughter and Prince William), I would see the show.
"I think the family is a little too posh to see things like that," he mentioned, making it clear that Middleton hasn't seen her impersonation on the series. "I don't understand why Carole hasn't taken legal action, because she really is evil. Carole is not this manipulative, evil person, sitting in a dungeon, devising ways to infiltrate the royal family."
On the other hand, he made it clear that he was very proud of everything his niece had achieved through her own merits and continued to emphasize the narrative errors about the Middletons in the show. "Kate did incredibly well to get into St. Andrews. She's an amazing girl, but that didn't show [on The Crown]," he said. "The idea that Carole would suggest my mother's granddaughter show a little leg is so far from the truth. It's just ridiculous."
