The British magazine Tatler dedicates its July/August issue to the Duchess of Cambridge, “Catherine the Great,” it headlines on its cover, comparing her to the Russian empress. The report is written by an expert journalist in the British Royal House, Anna Pasternak, and has the testimony of sources close to Prince William's wife.
The journalist claims that the confrontation between the two women occurred during rehearsals for Meghan and Prince Harry's wedding, held on May 19, 2018. The discussion was about whether the bridesmaids had to wear nylon stockings or not. One of the six girls who played this role was Carlota, Kate and Guillermo's daughter, which is why her mother was present at the rehearsals.
As a source explained to the aforementioned magazine, the Duchess of Cambridge was in favor of girls wearing stockings because that was what protocol stated. But Meghan refused, because the day was going to be hot and it was going to bother the girls, all of whom were young. That decision bothered Catalina, who has always followed the rules and also those days she was especially sensitive, because it had only been a few weeks since she had given birth to Luis, on April 23.
But Meghan broke protocol and got her way and on the wedding day the six girls wore their legs bare under their dresses. As can be seen in the numerous photos that were taken that day. That incident meant a before and after in the relationships between the two couples: Guillermo and Kate, in favor of always following the rules; and Enrique and Meghan, in favor of changing them and modernizing the institution. Something they have not been able to do and that is why they have decided to abandon it and follow their own path.

According to sources close to the Cambridges, the Duchess feels “trapped” and “overwhelmed” with the increased workload after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to leave the British Royal Family.
