The powerful symbol of Harry and William's separation of funds

Much has been said about a possible rift between Prince Harry and Prince William for some time, even with the youngest of the brothers explaining that although they will always be there for each other, at the moment each one is focused on their own things.

Although a separation has been widely discussed, it is only now that it has been made known that it was last December when the previously inseparable brothers decided to divide Princess Diana's memorial fund between their charities, to work separately.

At that time, no one imagined Harry's resignation from his official position, nor the subsequent disappearance of the Sussex Royal foundation that he had started with his wife.

According to documents presented by Dailymail, the Princes reached an agreement last December to divide their mother's memorial fund by beginning to work separately, in light of Harry's separation from what is now the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. This happened after the Royal Foundation took legal control of The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund and any profits it may make in the future in April 2013, despite the closure of its operations.

Although the fund is no longer active, some donations are received from time to time, which made the Princes make this determination. The agreement came half a year after Harry and Meghan decided that they would separate from the foundation that the Duke of Sussex started with the Cambridges, and in which they worked together on all kinds of initiatives, for example, Heads Together. After her marriage, Meghan was also included in the foundation, but as they stated at the time, her interests were different so they preferred to have their own organization.

“On December 18, 2019, an agreement was signed with the Sussex Royal Foundation whereby The Royal Foundation intends to give half of the future net income received by the Diana Fund to Sussex Royal,” the foundation's statement reads. through which it became known about this deal, “In March 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they would no longer operate Sussex Royal as their main philanthropic vehicle in the United Kingdom, and correspondingly, their share of the net income will be donated instead to such other charity as the Duke of Sussex decides.”

According to the foundation's annual statements, in recent years around 21 thousand pounds sterling (around half a million Mexican pesos) has been received from the fund. According to the British tabloid, Harry's share is believed to have been given to his charity, Sentebale.

A detail that anticipated the separation

In a prescient twist, this decision was made before Harry and Meghan's separation from their official positions as senior members of the British Royal Family was announced. Although the decision to separate their foundations came half a year earlier, it was not until December that the agreement was signed between the brothers, perhaps with a view to the fiscal year and, with the Sussexes, aware of the changes they were about to make. For now, Harry and Meghan had to postpone the presentation of their new charity, due to the pandemic, and it is believed that with the social changes that have occurred in recent months, its mission could radically change.
