More information is coming about the reboot of the iconic Highlander saga by director Chad Stahelski, and starring Henry Cavill, who left new clues to get excited about the project.
There is a lot of expectation surrounding the reboot of the Highlander franchise, which was released for the first time in 1986, and its next protagonist, Henry Cavill, provided new updates about this new film that has been in production for some time now. In a talk with journalist and actor Josh Horowitz, the actor announced that they will delve much deeper into the history of the immortals than the previous film and television series.
In the talk, the English interpreter stated that he could not reveal much information about the project and was especially careful with his answers. He described the script and the work being done so far as “extraordinary” and revealed that there will be connections to the original Highlander franchise, both series and films.
Another curious fact that Cavill pointed out is that the film will take a big turn with respect to the original material and that both he and Chad Stahelski (John Wick saga) will throw themselves into the pool and bet on the change. "Big swings are important. You play it safe and say 'hey, I guess that was good'. But you make a big splash and people love it. Or they hate it, and sometimes hating it is just as good."
The actor was also very excited about the project that will begin filming this 2024 and whose release window is scheduled for 2026. "I was a fan of Highlander. They were very fun movies. Obviously, I saw them when I was much younger and since then I watched them again. Also the TV show. I really enjoyed the backstory behind it. That kind of tragic warrior feel, with more story to tell than a cool guy with a cool sword doing cool things. And this [the reboot of Highlander] goes even deeper into that.”
Highlander is a media franchise that revolves around the existence of immortals who live among humans, fighting each other in duels throughout the centuries. The series follows the adventures of Duncan MacLeod, a Scottish immortal who faces off against other immortals as he tries to maintain a balance between his humanity and his immortal destiny.
Meanwhile, the films and other media in the franchise explore different aspects of this universe, introducing different characters and delving into the history of The Games and The Prize (the ultimate power that many seek). Highlander has four films and a series that aired between 1992 and 1998.
