The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also hold the titles of Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, previously held by Charles and his consort Camilla.
During the speech King Charles III mentioned: “Today I am proud to name you Prince of Wales, whose title I have had the great privilege of bearing for much of my life and duty.”
In the message recorded from Buckingham Palace he also indicated, “With Catherine at his side, our new Prince and Princess of Wales, I know, will continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the center of the field where it can be provide vital help.”
A source close to the royals said William and Kate are “focused on deepening the trust and respect of the people of Wales over time in their new role.”
“The Prince and Princess of Wales will approach their roles as modestly and humbly as they have done before,” the royal source noted, adding, “The new Princess of Wales appreciates the history associated with this role, but will understandably want to watch into the future while creating your own path.”
