One of the late queen's confidants has revealed her opinions on the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Queen Elizabeth II thought the Duchess of Sussex's wedding dress was “too white” for a divorcee.
This is stated in a new book about the British royal family by royal expert Ingrid Seward. The journalist quotes Lady Elizabeth Anson, cousin of Elizabeth II and one of the confidants to whom the queen conveyed this opinion about the suit, a creation of the artistic director of Givenchy, Clare Waight Keller.
“In her opinion it was not appropriate for a divorcee who was remarried in the church to look so ostentatiously virginal,” explains Seward in an excerpt from the book that was released this week by the Daily Mail.
According to the author, Queen Elizabeth II also did not like that Charles III replaced Meghan Markle's father by accompanying her on the way to the altar. Furthermore, both she and the Duke of Edinburgh, “who hate long speeches,” were looking forward to the sermon given by American Archbishop Michael Curry (it lasted 14 minutes and touched on topics such as slavery) to be over.
Queen Elizabeth II was also upset by Prince Harry's "overbearing" attitude during the wedding preparations, a behavior that caused her relationship with her grandson to be "quite damaged" ever since, she assures the author Lady Elizabeth Anson.
The book also reveals that the late Duke of Edinburgh referred to Meghan Markle as “DoW”, the abbreviation for Duchess of Windsor, since since he met her she reminded him of Wallis Simpson, the American woman (also divorced) for whom Edward VIII abdicated the throne.
