Prince William has acquired a new moniker, courtesy of former England rugby international Mike Tindle.
Shaking off the outdated tag of "One Pint Willie," the prince has now been playfully upgraded to "Five Martinis Willie." Tindle, who is married to William's cousin Zara, disclosed this cheeky beer-related nickname on Rugby League Legend Rob Burrow's podcast in December.
According to Tindle, the previous nickname was several years out of date, and through some training, the prince has proven he can now handle more than just a pint.
This lighthearted revelation came as Prince William announced his return to Royal duties after Kate's two-week hospital stay following major surgery. Tindle, aged 45, shared insights into Royal pet names while promoting Mikey's Mountain Miles, a charity skiing marathon set to take place in Sölden, Austria, next month.
The event, organized for the Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation and the Matt Hampson Foundation, supports young individuals seriously injured through sports. Hampson, an England rugby u21s player, founded his foundation after suffering a spinal cord injury during training in 2005.
Speaking from the French Alps during a warm-up event sponsored by ski rental giants Skiset, Tindle expressed the rugby community's solidarity with Hampson when he suffered his injury.
Noting the prevalence of similar injuries in the equestrian world, Tindle highlighted the easy decision to become a patron of the Matt Hampson Foundation, given the close connection his family has with horses in their everyday life.
The revelation of Prince William's new nickname adds a playful touch to the ongoing camaraderie within the Royal family and their connections to charitable causes.
