Michael Douglas, who has played Hank Pym in several films in the Marvel Universe, acknowledges that he wanted to die in the last one he made and does not seem interested in reprising the character.
Michael Douglas went viral last year when, after the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, he said that he would only return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe if his character, Hank Pym, died. In fact, as the interpreter has now revealed, he already requested that his character die in the third installment of the saga.
During an appearance on The View, Michael Douglas revealed that he actually wanted to be removed from the MCU in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and asked Marvel to do so. "Actually it was my request for the third one," he confessed.
"I said I'd like to have a serious death, with all these cool special effects. There has to be some cool way I can shrink to the size of an ant and explode, whatever it is. I want to use all those effects. But that was in the last one. Now, I don't think I'm going to do another one," he declared.
Douglas played Hank Pym in all three Ant-Man films, as well as appearing briefly in Avengers: Endgame. Although the character has not died in the MCU, the actor does not seem interested in reprising the role, and at the moment Marvel has not confirmed whether or not he will expand the Ant-Man franchise.
After the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, its star, Paul Rudd, told Insider that he "had no idea" what would happen with the saga. "None of this is my decision, so I try not to think about it too much. You'd have to ask the higher-ups at Marvel about that," he noted.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is one of Marvel's biggest box office hits. The film, which aimed to kick off the fifth phase of the MCU with a bang by introducing the new villain, Kang the Conqueror, Jonathan Majors' character who has been fired over domestic violence charges. The film was also battered by critics and only grossed $476 million worldwide.
