Police Name Prince Harry & Johnny Mercer For Using £26M Of Invictus Games For Illegal Activities

Court documents revealed that in November 2023, the Duke of Sussex breached a confidentiality agreement by emailing information related to the case to Johnny Mercer, the Veterans Minister. According to reports from The Telegraph, Harry shares a close bond with Mercer, stemming from their shared service in Afghanistan.

Mercer, a Tory MP, has also been a staunch supporter of the Invictus Games, actively advocating for the 2027 event to be hosted in Birmingham. The camaraderie between the two was evident as they were seen enjoying pints together at last year's games in Dorf, Germany. Mr. Justice Lane disclosed Harry's breach in a ruling issued on Monday, stating that the prince had shared certain information with a partner of Schillings, who was not part of the confidentiality agreement, as well as with Johnny Mercer MP.

Shahed Fatm Casey, representing the Duke, acknowledged the breach and informed solicitor Jenny A from Schillings. Harry's initial attempt to appeal the High Court's decision to reduce his personal security level during visits to the UK was unsuccessful. Now, he faces significant legal fees owed to a team of top London lawyers following the latest development in his four-year legal dispute with the British Home Office.

The legal saga began in 2020 when Harry took legal action against the government's decision to remove taxpayer-funded private security for him and Meghan, citing their transition away from full-time royal duties. Despite residing in California and not actively representing the monarchy, Harry argued for continued taxpayer-funded protection during visits to the UK.

However, the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures contended that the change reflected Harry's altered status after stepping back from full-time royal duties. The London court ultimately dismissed Harry's case in February, and the recent ruling denied him the opportunity to appeal further. High Court Judge Es Lane emphasized the legality of the process established for Harry, overseen by a committee under the Interior Ministry's jurisdiction. Additionally, the court ordered Harry to cover 90% of the British Home Office's legal expenses, estimated to be in the millions of dollars.

In December, Harry expressed concerns about personal safety resulting from the loss of security, stating that it hindered his visits to Britain. Despite this, he has made multiple trips back to his homeland over the past four years and plans to visit London again in May for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, a charity he founded. Although he cannot appeal the High Court's decision directly, Harry is anticipated to seek permission from the Court of Appeal to challenge the ruling by Judge Es Lane.
