The Colombian singer has told what she thinks of Barbie, one of the cinematic phenomena of recent times, and her response has not been what was expected since she has revealed that neither her children nor her have been convinced.
Barbie has been, without a doubt, one of the films that has marked the last year. After having grossed 1,446 million dollars at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing film in history, Greta Gerwig's film did not obtain all the expected awards at the Oscars. Despite being nominated in eight categories, she only won the Oscar for Best Original Song for What Was I Made For?
Since its release, there have been supporters and detractors of the film and its concept of feminism. Now, it was Shakira who gave her opinion about Barbie in an interview she recently gave and her response was completely unexpected.
"My kids absolutely hated it. They felt it was emasculating. And I agree, to a point. I'm raising two boys. I want them to feel powerful respecting women, too. I like it when pop culture tries to empower women without depriving men of their ability to be men, to protect and provide," he told Allure Magazine.
"I believe in giving women all the tools and the confidence that we can do everything without losing our essence, without losing our femininity. I believe that men have a purpose in society and so do women. We complement each other and that complement should not get lost," the singer explained.
Following her response, the interviewer could not help but ask her if the fact that a woman can do everything does not mean that she should do it. The Colombian artist responded: "Why not share the burden with people who deserve to carry it, who also have the duty to carry it?"
This response from Shakira has left a good part of her audience stunned, since in recent months the singer has become an icon of empowerment as a result of her latest songs related to her breakup with soccer player Gerard Piqué, father. of their children.
Through social networks, many profiles have expressed their discontent with the singer: "Trying to make me like Shakira, but she makes it very difficult for me", "waiting to see who is the first fool of April and Shakira has already arrived", " "I say one thing and do another, I don't like this Shakira."
