O.J. Simpson has been officially cremated in a ceremony that took place in Las Vegas, as confirmed by his attorney Malcolm LaVergne. The cremation took place at Palm Mortuary, in the presence of LaVergne himself and a few others present, although it was not revealed if O. J.'s children were at the ceremony.
The cremation took place Wednesday morning around 10, LaVergne told the Associated Press, who also noted that there are no immediate plans for a public memorial in Simpson's honor.
The attorney, who now acts as the executor of O.J.'s estate. Simpson, having been his legal representative for many years, had previously expressed that he would not go any money to Fred Goldman and his family. However, he later recanted, assuring that he will do what he is required to do by law, including processing any claims that are filed in connection with the pending trial over the death of Ronald Goldman.
Let's remember that O.J. Simpson was found civilly liable for the deaths of Ron Goldman and his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson in the 1990s, and was ordered to pay millions of dollars to the affected families. However, until the time of his death he largely managed to avoid meeting these financial obligations.
LaVergne maintains that O.J. was not particularly wealthy at the time of his death, raising uncertainty about how much money the Goldman and Brown families will ultimately receive.
However, the lawyer assured that justice will be done and that Simpson's four children will be the only beneficiaries of his estate, thus inheriting his fortune, which would not exceed one million dollars.
