A prominent commentator has criticized Meghan Markle for sharing a story about her daughter, Lilibet, which the critic found laughable.
Recently, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex completed a tour of Nigeria, starting with a visit to a school in Aja supported by the Archewell Foundation. While at the school, Meghan recounted a conversation with Lilibet to connect with the students. She shared, "Our daughter, Lili, she's much, much tinier than you guys.
She's about to turn three, and a few weeks ago, she looked at me, and she would just see the reflection in my eyes and she goes, 'Mama, I see me in you.' Now, she was speaking literally, but I held on to those words in a very different way and thought, 'Yeah, I do see me in you, and you see me in you.'" Meghan then told the students, "As I look around this room, I see myself in all of you as well."
Commenting on this moment on GBN America, Daily Mail columnist Moren Kahan criticized Meghan Markle, stating, "Meghan Markle tells the story with a straight face. What's the point of this trip? She spent the whole time talking about herself; it's laughable." Kahan also discussed Prince Harry's behavior at the same event, criticizing him for inspecting the Nigerian troops despite having been stripped of his royal titles. She said, "It's laughable and further diminishes Harry in the eyes of the Royals and the world.
He's standing at attention as though he still holds his military honors and titles, even though he was stripped of them when he left. It's as if William hadn't been given the honor last week by Charles that was due to go to Harry. He's standing there at attention in plain clothes reviewing Nigerian troops. I mean, it's laughable; it's an insult to the Nigerian people. These two are, of course, playing as though they're still Royals when they've spent the past four or five years telling us how terrible it was to be Royals."
Kahan also remarked on Meghan's parenting, suggesting she delights in flaunting her role as a mother to maintain appearances. She stated, "Genuine empathy naturally fosters affection for one's children. Parenting can be a tumultuous journey, full of frustrations and exhaustion, yet profoundly fulfilling. Amidst the trials, moments of shared joy make it all worthwhile. But those who truly relish parenthood don't feel compelled to flaunt it incessantly. Yet Meghan does. While lacking in talents and charisma, she leans on motherhood as her default topic."
Some critics doubt Meghan's sincerity regarding her maternal status, suggesting she appears distant from her children and prioritizes herself over them. Meghan often shares anecdotes about their activities, such as Lilibet singing or Archie building adventures, but these stories are often perceived as insincere.
On Mother's Day, while most mothers cherish time with their children, Meghan chose to travel to Nigeria to promote her husband's charity work, a move seen as unconventional. Instead of being with her family, she champions her husband's pursuits, constantly touting her maternal love and the wonders of motherhood, despite her frequent absences from her children's lives. Her actions overshadow her words, revealing a perceived hypocrisy.
