Meghan Markle's Nigerian Roots Exposed After Previously Revealing Maltese Ancestry

Meghan Markle's recent statement about her ancestry caused a stir, as she claimed to be 43% Nigerian during a visit to Nigeria with her husband, Prince Harry.

Meghan Markle's Nigerian Roots Exposed After Previously Revealing Maltese Ancestry

This assertion puzzled many, given her previous claims about her heritage. In 2015, during a visit to Malta, Meghan had spoken about her Maltese ancestry, sparking debate about the authenticity and consistency of her statements.Critics on social media voiced their skepticism. One user on X questioned, "Where did 43% Nigerian come from? I think these people are lying.

Where's your evidence? We can't take the word of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as they've been proven liars in court previously." Another added, "Meghan Markle claimed she was Maltese, and now 43% Nigerian? It's confusing, don't you think?" Some noted that Meghan had indeed mentioned her Maltese roots, specifically in 2015, when she visited Malta to explore her family history. Her great-great-grandmother, Mary Bird, was born in Malta in 1862.

During her 2015 trip, Meghan participated in a photo shoot for LOOK magazine, wearing a traditional Maltese ganella and sampling local cuisine. She expressed a deep connection to Malta, saying, "This trip was about trying to understand where I came from and fitting in a piece of the puzzle," as reported by the Daily Mail. Meghan remarked on how she felt a sense of belonging, stating, "To come somewhere where you so quickly settle into feeling welcomed is really special.

I started to say, my gosh, I do sort of blend in."In a blog post on her now-defunct lifestyle site, The Tig, Meghan detailed her emotional journey to Malta, describing it as feeling like home. This strong identification with Maltese culture and heritage added to the confusion surrounding her Nigerian ancestry claim.Meanwhile, Prince Harry faced criticism for referring to Nigerians as his in-laws during a speech at the Lagos State Government House. "In-laws, skip the protocol because at this point, we're all family," he said, a remark that led to backlash.

Royal fans questioned why Harry had not met Meghan's father, Thomas Markle Sr., despite being married for six years. He also has not seen her half-sister Samantha or half-brother Thomas Jr.Commenters were quick to point out this discrepancy. One person remarked, "He's so desperate to find a family that he's willing to call random people his in-laws. He has in-laws – a father-in-law, a mother-in-law, a stepsister, and a stepbrother-in-law – yet he disowned everyone."

Another user expressed disdain, "He makes me puke with his in-law remarks. Can you imagine how Meghan's actual family feels about this statement?"Others took a lighter approach, joking about Prince Harry's comments. One user quipped that they hoped he wouldn't treat his new in-laws as poorly as his old ones. Another suggested that Harry would forget his new in-laws as soon as he boarded the jet back to California.
