Meghan Markle has been notably absent as the "Suits" spin-off begins filming in Los Angeles, five years after the thrilling conclusion of the original U.S. legal drama "Suits."

NBC Execs CRUSHED Meghan Markle's Suits Spinoff Hopes! Filming In LA Without Meghan Markle

The creators have officially started production on the new spin-off series, "Suits: LA." News of this new show, set in the "Suits" universe, broke earlier this year following the original series' resurgence in popularity on Netflix after it was added to the streaming giant's global catalog in June 2023. While Netflix typically doesn't disclose viewership numbers, the buzz around "Suits" may have contributed to the spin-off's green light.

The original series starred Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle, among others, but interestingly, the announcement of the spin-off did not mention Gabriel Macht, another lead from the original series. "Suits" followed Mike Ross, played by Adams, as he navigated the legal profession despite never attending law school. While the original was set in New York, the new series, as the title suggests, will be set in Los Angeles, coincidentally near Meghan Markle's real-life home in Montecito. There had been speculation about her involvement in the spin-off, adding to the numerous rumors about her potential brand deals or acting roles.

The new series will focus on Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York, who has reinvented himself as a representative for powerful clients in Los Angeles. As his firm faces a crisis, Ted must adapt to his new role to survive, with his personal and professional lives increasingly intertwining. The cast is led by Stephen Amell from "Arrow" in the title role, alongside Josh McDermitt from "The Walking Dead" and Lex Scott Davis. The show has generated considerable buzz, although Meghan Markle is not part of the cast.

Despite the excitement surrounding the new series, there has been no official news about Meghan Markle's return. However, her former co-star Patrick J. Adams hinted at the possibility of both their characters returning. At this year’s Golden Globes, Adams shared with ET that Mike and Rachel, their characters, might come down to Los Angeles to "fix some stuff." He expressed his enthusiasm for the show and his character, stating that he would be ready to "suit up" again if he received the call.

Additionally, another former co-star suggested that Meghan Markle could have a future in U.S. politics following her departure from the royal family. Erica Alexander believes that Meghan is headed to the White House and has even offered to run her first campaign. Describing Meghan as a diplomat and ambassador, Alexander is confident in Meghan's ability to address major issues facing the U.S. and the world. Meghan's activism makes her a natural fit for a senatorial role, according to Alexander.

When asked if Meghan could become a future political leader, Alexander responded affirmatively, noting Meghan's previous work as an activist and her potential to be a great senator. Some speculate that Meghan might even run for president someday, a possibility that Alexander believes is within reach. She expressed her willingness to support Meghan’s political journey, enthusiastically offering to manage her campaign and envisioning a great time ahead.
