Meghan Markle is reportedly displeased with Taylor Swift's recent friendly interaction with Prince William, which occurred after the pop superstar declined an invitation to appear on Markle's podcast years ago.
According to commentators, the Prince of Wales, along with his two older children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, attended one of Swift's Eras Tour concerts in London. After the show on Friday, which coincided with William's 42nd birthday, they posed for another viral selfie with Taylor. A fan-taken video showing Prince William dancing during Swift's performance also went viral, drawing more attention to the reunion between the royal and the singer.
While many fans admired the singer for hanging out with the royal trio, Sky News Australia host Rita Panahi and royal correspondent Kinsey Schofield suggested that Meghan Markle might not be pleased with Swift meeting Prince William and his children. "If there's one thing Meghan covets above all else, it's celebrity attention," Panahi claimed. "The former actress probably isn't going to be happy with Taylor Swift making time for William and his children."
Schofield noted that Meghan Markle had once written a handwritten note to Taylor Swift, inviting her to appear on a podcast. However, Taylor's representatives declined the invitation. After Markle and Prince Harry parted ways with Spotify in June last year, it emerged that Swift had rejected the former Suits star's invitation to appear on the Archetypes podcast, which had featured interviews with notable personalities like Mariah Carey, Serena Williams, Mindy Kaling, and Paris Hilton in its first and only season in 2022. The Wall Street Journal reported that despite receiving a handwritten note from the Duchess, Swift declined Markle's offer through a representative.
Despite her apparent admiration for Swift, evidenced by Markle attending one of Swift's Eras Tour shows at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and being seen dancing and singing along to "You Belong With Me," Schofield pointed out that Prince William and Taylor Swift have a history. In 2013, the singer and the royal joined Jon Bon Jovi on stage during a charity event at Kensington Palace to perform "Livin' on a Prayer."
In a separate interview with GB News, Schofield suggested that Swift's public interaction with Prince William and his children, following her rejection of Markle's invitation, indicated that the singer is "Team Wales." "I think we're seeing Taylor side with Team Wales here," Schofield claimed. "When Meghan saw the selfie of Taylor Swift with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince William, she likely had a strong negative reaction. The fact that she wasn't included in the picture or event would have caused significant distress."
There have been reports of Meghan possibly having an outburst in response to seeing the attention and positive reactions directed towards the photo, feeling excluded from the anticipated adulation. A source close to the Duchess claimed that Meghan Markle wouldn't be feeling good after Swift's powerful show with William and his kids at Wembley Stadium in London on the Prince of Wales's 42nd birthday. "I don't think the Duchess will find it possible to stop holding a grudge against megastar Swift after the latest snub," the source added.
