Meghan Markle reveals her genealogy, I am 43% Nigerian

Meghan Markle is back on another Tuesday with a new episode of her podcast 'Archetypes', focused on gender and race stereotypes; this time, alongside comedians Issa Rae and Ziwe, where they discussed the challenges that black women face in the entertainment industry. In this way, the Duchess of Sussex has recalled the auditions for roles in which the characters "always had to have a personality or an attitude."

“This idea that a black woman should be angry when we all know that sometimes things make you feel angry or sad or hurt or upset and that's not a gender-specific or race-specific feeling. However, this stereotype of the angry black woman persists, and... it was constantly reinforced in ways we hadn't even realized,” Markle says.

Meanwhile, Isaa Rae says that to create her popular HBO comedy 'Insecure' she was inspired by how these women are often portrayed on television shows, as "heartless" or "rude" caricatures. And she opens up about her fear of being perceived as a “bitch” for asserting her opinion or expressing her disappointment on set: “I get rid of the fear of being labeled as such because I shouldn't fear that if I just want something to be great.

Meghan also relates that a couple of years ago she discovered her genealogy was 43% Nigerian: “I'm going to start digging into all this because anyone I've told it to, especially Nigerian women, say 'What!'” To which Ziwe assures him that “this is great for our community.”
