Beloved actor Richard Gere was recently hospitalized while on a family vacation in Mexico.
Over the weekend, Gere was admitted to a hospital after experiencing health issues, but his wife, Alejandra Gere, has since provided a positive update on his condition. She shared that Gere is recovering well and feeling much better after the health scare. The 73-year-old American actor was diagnosed with pneumonia while vacationing at the popular Mexican resort of Nuevo Vallarta, located in the state of Nayarit, on the country’s west coast.
According to Alejandra, who is of Galician descent, Gere’s condition has improved significantly since his hospitalization. In a social media post shared on Instagram, she wrote, “Richard feels much better, and we are all feeling relief. He is 'almost' back to normal.”
Alongside her message, Alejandra posted a heartwarming photo of the couple enjoying a walk on the beach. In the image, Richard Gere is seen carrying one of their children on his shoulders, while Alejandra holds hands with another of their young children. The family had traveled to Mexico not only for a vacation but also to celebrate Alejandra’s 40th birthday. Unfortunately, Gere developed a severe cough, which later worsened and led to the diagnosis of pneumonia after a medical consultation.
Gere was admitted to 'The Jewel' hospital in Nuevo Vallarta, where he remained under observation for 24 hours. Thankfully, his condition was stabilized, and his recovery began shortly after receiving treatment. Alejandra expressed her gratitude to the hospital staff and their attending physician, Dr. Ríos, stating, "We want to thank Dr. Ríos and The Jewel Hospital for taking care of Richard. We initially came to Mexico to continue working on our conservation project south of Puerto Vallarta, but we all arrived sick from New York.”
In addition to thanking the medical professionals, Alejandra also took a moment to express her appreciation for the outpouring of support and kind messages from fans. She reassured everyone that the family is now on the road to recovery, saying, “Now we are all fine and almost fully recovered. Thank you all for your messages!”
In a lighthearted end to her message, Alejandra shared another photo of Richard, this time shirtless and smiling, to further emphasize that he was feeling much better. She added a playful note, saying that Richard had asked her to share the photo to show fans his improvement.
The Gere family seems to be well on their way to resuming their vacation plans after what was certainly a frightening moment.
