Australia’s Today Show host, Karl Stefanovic, took to the airwaves with his signature sharp wit to address Prince Harry’s ongoing challenges.
While King Charles III was busy charming Australians during his royal tour, Stefanovic couldn’t help but deliver a colorful commentary on the youngest royal's tumultuous life. The timing couldn’t have been more apt, as King Charles faced an unexpected interruption from Victorian Senator Lydia Thorpe, who disrupted the proceedings with a fiery outburst. Her heckling lasted nearly a minute, with Thorpe shouting at the monarch until security intervened to defuse the situation. Amid the chaos, Stefanovic stood up for the King and found an opportunity to take a swipe at Prince Harry in his characteristic style.
"You don’t have to like the King, but give him a break,” Karl remarked. “The man’s been through a lot these past few years, especially with his youngest son. Let’s be honest, Harry’s cheese has fallen off its cracker.” The remark, both humorous and pointed, encapsulated Stefanovic’s view on Prince Harry’s ongoing feud with the royal family, which he acknowledged must be taking a toll on King Charles. “His youngest son’s out there fighting with the good son, and as a parent, that has to hurt,” he continued. “Meanwhile, the good son’s wife is battling cancer, and Charles had to deal with that on top of everything else.”
Despite these personal challenges, King Charles remained committed to his royal duties. During his visit to Australia, he made a point of greeting and connecting with the public. Stefanovic lauded this dedication, emphasizing, “He loves this country and its people.” However, Lydia Thorpe’s loud criticism and public interruption didn’t go unnoticed. “And then you’ve got Lydia giving him the ‘Lydia Thorpe special,’ dressed in sacred garb, shouting at him,” Stefanovic noted. “But what did the King do? He kept calm and carried on, had a laugh with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and went right back to greeting the public.”
Stefanovic’s commentary took a comical turn as he described a lighter moment from the royal tour. While outside, King Charles encountered one of Australia’s more peculiar animals—the alpaca. “The King goes outside, meets an alpaca, and boom, it spits on him,” Stefanovic narrated with enthusiasm. “But what does he do? He smiles and just keeps rolling with it. You can’t help but respect the guy.”
In contrast, Stefanovic imagined how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might react to such a situation. With his signature blend of sarcasm and humor, he said, “Now imagine if Harry and Meghan were in that situation. They’d probably write a heartfelt essay about how the alpaca bullied them and how they’re always dealing with traumatic encounters. They’d turn the whole thing into another headline.”
Stefanovic wrapped up his segment with a final, cheeky jab at Prince Harry’s perceived mental state and authenticity. “And about that cheese,” he quipped, “I’m guessing it’s some sad, plastic-wrapped fake cheese—looks like the real thing, but it’s not.” He concluded by contrasting the Sussexes’ alleged wallowing with King Charles and Queen Camilla’s approach to life. “While Harry and Meghan wallow in self-pity, King Charles and Camilla are just out here loving life, handling alpaca-spitting incidents like it’s just another Tuesday,” Stefanovic remarked.
