King Charles, accompanied by Queen Camilla, is currently in Samoa for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
However, his visit took a somber turn after receiving tragic news from the UK. According to a report by The Mirror, King Charles’s longtime friend, Ian Farquhar, passed away under distressing circumstances. Farquhar, 78, was reportedly found dead at his home. It is believed that he became trapped while attempting to get out of bed after drinking, with his legs discovered elevated above his bedside table.
Ian Farquhar had a distinguished background as a retired Army Captain and held the position of equerry to the Queen Mother. He served in the Queen’s Own Hussars, a prestigious cavalry regiment of the British Army, demonstrating his commitment and service to the royal family over the years. His connection to King Charles deepened over time, and he was a cherished figure within royal circles.
Notably, Farquhar's friendship with King Charles extended beyond formal ties. The two reportedly became closer after Prince William, King Charles's son, dated Ian’s daughter, Rose Farquhar, in the year 2000. Prince William, fresh out of Eton after completing his A-levels, briefly dated Rose before meeting Kate Middleton at the University of St. Andrews in 2001. The two families' connection added a personal layer to the bond between King Charles and Ian Farquhar.
Despite the grief, King Charles maintained his official duties at CHOGM in his role as Head of the Commonwealth. During the event's Opening Ceremony on Friday, he addressed Commonwealth leaders, highlighting the importance of unity and collaboration among the member nations. However, the news of his friend's passing undoubtedly cast a shadow over his visit.
