Meghan Markle’s latest Netflix project is apparently so cringe-inducing that even her closest friends want nothing to do with it. Believe it or not, Marcus Anderson, once a steadfast supporter, has distanced himself entirely.
For those unfamiliar with him, Marcus is the Canadian Soho House executive who played a crucial role in orchestrating Meghan and Harry’s first meeting. He arranged their blind date at London’s Soho House in 2016 and was once a significant figure in Meghan’s inner circle. Their bond was so strong that old Instagram messages show Meghan asking, “What would I do without you?” But, as time has proven, relationships can change dramatically. Marcus was nowhere to be seen in the first season of Meghan’s Netflix show, and sources confirm he won’t be involved in the next one either. It certainly seems like someone is jumping ship.
The PR machine is, of course, working overtime to spin the narrative. The official explanation? Marcus is simply too busy with his demanding job, constantly traveling between Soho House’s 42 global locations. While it’s true that people have packed schedules, one has to wonder—if Meghan’s show were a massive success, wouldn’t he find the time to support his dear friend? The excuses don’t stop there. Another claim being pushed is that Marcus isn’t comfortable with the spotlight. Yet, this is the same man who helped orchestrate Meghan’s grand royal introduction and was perfectly fine being front and center back then. So what changed?
Marcus isn’t the only one keeping his distance. Ellen DeGeneres, Oprah Winfrey, and even Gloria Steinem—some of Meghan’s once-close allies—are nowhere to be found in connection with this project. Gloria’s absence, in particular, makes complete sense. While actual royals like Catherine, Prince William, King Charles, and Queen Camilla dedicate themselves to meaningful charitable work and public service, Meghan is busy renting a home and filming lifestyle content, playing the role of a modern-day Martha Stewart. The contrast couldn’t be starker.
The last time Marcus and Meghan were spotted together was at a mutual friend’s baby shower in December, and even before that, years had passed without them being photographed together. This follows a pattern many have pointed out for years—how many close friends and family members has Meghan distanced herself from after achieving what she wanted? Her father, her former best friend, her first husband, and now even the man who introduced her to Harry have seemingly been left behind. It’s like watching a real-life version of How to Lose Friends and Alienate People play out before our eyes.
In stark contrast, look at Catherine and William. Through thick and thin, their friendships endure. Their relationships aren’t transactional but built on genuine mutual respect and loyalty. That is the fundamental difference.
And then there’s Harry. Once a beloved prince with the world at his feet, he now seems perpetually lost, shuffled from one ill-fated project to another. Once a respected royal, he now appears to be merely following Meghan’s lead, miles away from his family and homeland. It’s difficult to watch. While William and Catherine focus on building a legacy of service and dignity, Harry and Meghan may ultimately be remembered for throwing it all away in pursuit of Hollywood deals and failed media ventures.
