Volodymyr Zelenskyy could have maintained a polite demeanor throughout his White House visit. He could have ignored the disinformation, insults, and name-calling from Vance and Trump. He could have expressed gratitude repeatedly, worn an impeccable Ralph Lauren suit, and still been accused of being disrespectful.
The true objective was to humiliate Zelenskyy, which is why the press was deliberately kept in the room during negotiations—an unusual move, as standard protocol dictates that media presence is limited to brief photo opportunities before discussions take place behind closed doors.
Consider the gravity of Ukraine’s situation: the nation is under siege by the largest army in Europe, its people subjected to relentless bombings, torture, and death. The United States once persuaded Ukraine to relinquish its nuclear arsenal, promising protection in return. Yet now, it appears to be aligning with the aggressor.
And then, sitting across from Zelenskyy, a man wearing eyeliner demands, “Why aren’t you showing gratitude?”
Zelenskyy demonstrated immense self-control. JD Vance, on the other hand, deliberately provoked conflict.
The entire spectacle was orchestrated to spark a controversy. In the aftermath, the expectation is that all officials and members of Congress will rally behind the President of the United States. The narrative has shifted—not Russia versus Ukraine, but Trump versus Zelenskyy.
Putin employed a similar tactic at the onset of his invasion, urging Russians to support their homeland unconditionally. His messaging evolved over time: first, “Everything is going according to plan,” then, “If we started, we must finish,” followed by, “All objectives of the special military operation will be achieved.” Now, his latest justification is, “It is what it is—God’s will.”
This is a warning for Americans about the dangerous path their country is treading by aligning itself with Russia, a longstanding adversary. The shift is being orchestrated by a vice-presidential candidate handpicked by foreign oligarchs, who insists that the Ukrainian president, whom he attempted to publicly intimidate, had the audacity to stand his ground.
Every possible manipulation is being used to break Zelenskyy’s resolve and force Ukraine into submission to Putin.
