Prince Harry’s emotional outburst, where he pleads for people to “stop criticizing Meghan Markle,” has to be one of the most bewildering and cringeworthy moments of 2025.
It’s as though he’s still unable to grasp the reality of how the public views Meghan, unwilling to acknowledge the reasons behind the widespread backlash she receives. Rather than taking a moment to reflect on why people are critical of her, Harry seems determined to cast himself and his wife as perpetual victims, defending her as if she’s been unfairly targeted without reason. Meghan Markle, however, has attracted criticism largely due to her own actions. Consider her behavior involving Rory Mroy, for instance. After a brief fling, she was seen clinging to him in a way that many would describe as desperate and unbecoming. Her need for validation was on full display, and Rory, a successful athlete, clearly wasn’t interested beyond a short-lived encounter.
Meghan, however, appeared to view the situation as something more significant, seemingly blaming the world when it didn’t pan out. Harry, meanwhile, refuses to acknowledge any of this. Instead, he demands sympathy, acting as though Meghan should be immune from scrutiny—an idea that is not only unrealistic but also rather embarrassing.
The couple appears to believe they exist above criticism, yet Meghan’s behavior—whether it’s cozying up to celebrities, her numerous media appearances, or reportedly drafting a divorce book while still married—reveals a pattern that many see as attention-seeking and lacking in sincerity. If preserving her reputation or prioritizing her family truly mattered to her, she might consider making better choices rather than fueling controversy time and again.
Harry’s unwavering defense of Meghan, despite her repeated missteps, only emphasizes how disconnected he has become from reality. He says he’ll stand by her through everything, but one has to wonder whether he’s standing by the woman he married or by an image he’s desperately trying to protect. Let’s not ignore that Meghan has, in the past, seemed ready to move on had certain relationships played out differently. Harry’s “protecting the mother of my children” line is beginning to ring hollow when measured against Meghan’s actions, which often seem to invite public criticism rather than discourage it.
His impassioned plea to end the criticism comes across less like a noble defense of a partner and more like a public meltdown. By trying to frame Meghan as some kind of flawless, untouchable figure, Harry only adds to the absurdity of the narrative they’ve built around themselves. They seem to interpret every online comment or headline as a personal attack, refusing to see that much of the backlash Meghan faces stems from her own choices and a persistent failure to accept responsibility for them.
At this point, Harry’s tearful defenses seem more about protecting his own ego than genuinely safeguarding Meghan. It’s a reflection of how deeply he’s entrenched himself in defending someone who, quite frankly, often undermines her own cause. Their continued delusion and detachment from reality have turned them from sympathetic figures into cautionary examples of celebrity self-destruction. If Harry truly wants to support Meghan, he might consider encouraging her to stop manufacturing scandals and start carrying herself with a little more humility and self-awareness.
