Alison Hall credits actress Olivia Munn with saving her life after a breast cancer diagnosis that was prompted by Munn’s decision to speak openly about her own experience.

Alison Hall Thanks Olivia Munn for Inspiring Life-Saving Breast Cancer Diagnosis Through Shared Story

Hall, a correspondent for "Inside Edition," was moved to undergo a breast cancer risk assessment, which led to the discovery of stage zero breast cancer during her first MRI scan.

Hall expressed her gratitude, saying she never imagined that Munn’s story would directly lead to such a life-changing outcome. She emphasized that by publicly sharing her journey, Munn had given her the invaluable gift of early detection.

The two women finally met in person at Leon’s restaurant in Greenwich Village, where they filmed their emotional meeting. Though they had been in touch for months, this was the first time they met face to face. Munn had quietly supported Hall throughout her recovery, even sending her a thoughtful care package after her surgery.

Hall underwent a double mastectomy in January, followed by reconstructive surgery in May. She explained that because her cancer was detected so early, she was able to avoid chemotherapy and radiation — treatments her own mother had to endure two decades earlier while battling stage 2B breast cancer.

She described the diagnosis as a turning point, saying it allowed her to take preventive action and gain long-term peace of mind. Hall feels fortunate to continue life with annual screenings and sees the early detection as a true blessing.

Wanting to highlight the wider impact of Munn’s transparency, Hall gathered letters from seven other women who said they, too, were motivated to get screened after hearing Munn’s story. She believes countless more have been similarly influenced around the world.

Hall acknowledged that the journey doesn’t end with treatment. As a cancer survivor, she noted there's an ongoing vigilance, a constant need to monitor her health. Yet, she said she feels strong and proud to have made it through the toughest part.

Reflecting on her recovery, she shared a personal moment when she wore a bathing suit for the first time post-surgery and felt genuinely beautiful. She explained that body image has always been a challenge, and undergoing this experience forced her to reshape her mindset. Now, she views her body as a testament to everything she has overcome.

Hall’s full report is scheduled to air Wednesday on "Inside Edition." Broadcast times vary by region, and viewers are encouraged to check their local listings.
