Kate Middleton Will Join Prince William in India for Major Earthshot Prize Return
Kate Middleton could be preparing for another major international appearance, with reports suggesting that the Princess of Wales may join Prince William in India this November for the 2026 Earthshot Prize. Although Kensington Palace has not confirmed the plans, the potential trip would mark an important moment in Kate’s gradual return to international royal duties.
According to an Aug. 11 report by The Mirror, William and Kate are expected to travel to India for the 2026 Earthshot Prize ceremony. The palace has not officially announced the visit, so the plans remain unconfirmed. If the couple does travel, it would be their first major joint visit to India since their 2016 tour of the country and Bhutan.
The possible appearance would also be significant because Kate has not attended an Earthshot Prize ceremony since the inaugural event in Boston in 2022. She was absent from the 2023 ceremony in Singapore, the 2024 awards in Cape Town and the 2025 event in Rio de Janeiro. During that period, she stepped back from many public duties while focusing on her health.
Kate announced in January 2024 that she had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy. Her treatment led her to reduce her public schedule considerably. In early 2025, she revealed that her cancer was in remission and began a gradual return to royal engagements.
Since then, the Princess of Wales has slowly increased her public appearances. Her potential trip to India would be another major step in that process, particularly because an overseas visit requires a demanding schedule of public engagements. It would also show how she is balancing her responsibilities with her continued focus on her well-being and family.
The Earthshot Prize is closely connected to William’s environmental ambitions. He launched the initiative in 2021 to support innovative ideas aimed at solving some of the world’s most serious environmental problems. The prize focuses on practical solutions involving areas such as climate change, nature protection, clean technology and the restoration of the planet.
Kate has been a strong supporter of William’s environmental work. The couple share an interest in nature and sustainability, making the Earthshot Prize a natural area of collaboration for them. Her possible attendance in India would allow her to support William while also taking part in an initiative that reflects causes important to both of them.
India is particularly significant as the host country for the 2026 awards. When William announced the location, he highlighted India’s growing technology sector, rich biodiversity and large young population. The country is also home to more Earthshot Prize finalists and winners than any other nation, giving the event a strong connection to the organization’s mission.
A return to India would also have personal meaning for William and Kate. The couple visited India and Bhutan together in 2016, traveling to several destinations including Mumbai, New Delhi, Kaziranga National Park in Assam and the Taj Mahal in Agra. Their earlier visit included cultural, environmental and community-focused engagements.
The Princess’s possible return comes after she recently resumed international travel. In May, Kate made her first overseas trip in more than two years when she visited Reggio Emilia in northern Italy. Her two-day visit focused on the city’s approach to child-centered education and early childhood development.
The Italy trip was seen as an encouraging sign that Kate was becoming more comfortable with a wider range of royal responsibilities. Rather than returning to an intense schedule immediately, she has gradually increased her appearances and selected engagements connected with causes she has supported for years.
Kate has also resumed several high-profile events in Britain. She attended Trooping the Colour with William and their children, returned to Royal Ascot and appeared at Wimbledon, where she presented championship trophies. She also participated in the National Three Peaks Challenge.
Her growing presence has attracted attention because she remains one of the monarchy’s most prominent figures and is expected to become Queen alongside William in the future. Her return to public life has therefore been closely watched by royal observers.
The Wales family is also preparing for an important change at home. Prince George is expected to begin attending Eton College next month, following in his father’s footsteps. As second in line to the throne, George’s education and development are naturally significant moments for the royal family.
For William and Kate, the next few months could involve balancing major family changes with increasingly important royal responsibilities. Their ability to support their children while preparing for their future roles has become an important part of their public image.
If Kate does accompany William to India, the trip could carry significance beyond the Earthshot Prize itself. It would bring the couple back to a country with which they already share memories, provide an opportunity to promote environmental innovation and demonstrate Kate’s continuing return to international royal duties.
For now, the India visit remains unconfirmed. However, if the plans become official, the 2026 Earthshot Prize could become one of Kate’s most notable overseas appearances since she began rebuilding her royal schedule.
