Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet starred together in 1997's Titanic, delivering one of the most memorable romances of the late 20th century. Their on-screen chemistry as Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater was palpable, leading fans to speculate (and hope) for a quarter-century that something was going on with the two of them off-camera as well.
It is true that their good feelings for each other have continued over the years and their friendship is well documented. While accepting a Golden Globe for her performance opposite DiCaprio in 2009's Revolutionary Road, Winslet said, "Leo, I'm so happy to be here and tell you how much I love you and how much I have loved you for 13 years," before acknowledging her husband in real life. This kind of interaction is common between the two, but Winslet has made it clear that her love for her co-star is strictly platonic and she always has been.
Kate Winslet says that the reason her friendship with Leonardo DiCaprio works so well is due to the lack of romantic attraction between them.
"It's very disappointing for people to hear that, because in the Kate and Leo story soap opera we fell in love at first sight and kissed a million, but we never really did," Winslet said. Marie Claire (via Complex). "He always saw me as one of the guys."
Whether DiCaprio saw Winslet as exactly "one of the boys," he definitely sees her as a member of her own family. DiCaprio even walked Winslet down the aisle at her wedding to Edward Abel Smith in 2012.
His relationship between Leo and Kate is clear. While lobbying for Revolutionary Path, the two appeared on Today, and were asked by Matt Lauer about the ways their physical appearances have changed. Winslet joked that DiCaprio's forehead has grown and her face has become more lined, while DiCaprio replied that Winslet was as beautiful as he was the day he met her. Their relationship is a bit of a brother-sister, a bit of a father and daughter, a bit of an older marriage, it all seems to be, except a royal couple.
