Curiosities of the filming of The Wolf of Wall Street

All the shootings hide interesting stories, but those behind the scenes of The Wolf of Wall Street are priceless. These are some of the many curiosities of Scorsese's award-winning production.

The Wolf of Wall Street is one of Martin Scorsese's most controversial films, but also one of his most acclaimed.

Despite being based on the real memoirs of Jordan Belfort, many of the most remembered scenes have their own story.

Martin Scorsese promoted improvisation on the set. As a result, the actors took the liberty to go further with their performances.

An example is that of Matthew McConaughey, who plays the role of Mark Hanna. His heartbeat scene was improvised. In fact, that routine is part of a ritual that McConaughey carries out before acting.

Leonardo DiCaprio's expression of confusion before the scene is real. DiCaprio, in charge of interpreting Belfort, affirmed that this sequence had an important role in the film, since he defined the tone of the rest of the film.

DiCaprio also put his improvisational skills to good use in the scene where he tries to open his car with his leg. That take caused a back injury, so he could only record it once.

But it was the scenes of the declarations that had a greater load of spontaneous performances. Scorsese only told the actors not to say anything that was important, they were the ones who had to invent the answers they gave.

Margot Robbie plays Naomi Lapaglia, partner of Jordan Belfort.

Robbie stated that the script featured a woman using her body as currency. Therefore, she found it necessary to appear completely in the scene where she seduces Belfort, even though Scorsese had suggested that she wear a bathrobe.

The actress also confessed that some shots were very uncomfortable to shoot. Especially the one that shows Lapaglia and Belfort having over money. The paper of the counterfeit money used caused multiple cuts on his back.

But, perhaps, the interpreter's biggest concern was the superb slap she gave DiCaprio while recording one of the couple's fight scenes. It turned out to be much stronger than he had planned, and he thought the actor would sue her for it.

Jonah Hill and his visit to the hospital

Jonah Hill begged to audition for the role of Donnie, even in exchange for being paid less than usual if he got the job. He was not going to pass up the opportunity to be in The Wolf of Wall Street.

During his performance in the film he had to wear prosthetic teeth, and even a prosthetic penis for the party scene.

But nothing was more difficult than shooting the scenes where he used cocaine. All the actors involved in such scenes inhale B vitamins, but Hill had so many sequences that he ended up being hospitalized for bronchitis.
