Oscar Night - It is, as the ads say, the biggest night in Hollywood. The final and most important of all many movie awards shows, absolutely every major actor, actress, and filmmaker attends the annual celebration of good-to-good movies. Attendees walk the red carpet, laugh gleefully at the host's irreverent jokes and cry through their emotional acceptance speeches (or sit in their seats pretending to be happy for the colleague who punched them).
Whether they're winners, nominees, presenters, or just attendees, these stars do it all in priceless elegant evening gowns or boring tuxedos with bow ties.
For all of us who regularly watch at home, celebrities really only have one job when they hit the red carpet: wear clothes and look good in them. Unfortunately, that's too high an order for the handful of celebrities unfortunate enough to experience an Oscar night "wardrobe malfunction."
California girls will sp**t their dresses
At the 2017 Academy Awards, Katy Perry rocked a sparkly and tasteful asymmetrical Jean Paul Gaultier gown with uneven shoulders and a ripped floor-length skirt component, but she even more ripped while the pop star wore it.
As Perry leaned in to watch a live broadcast of the Oscars as she waited for Vanity Fair's Oscar after-party to begin, a photographer snapped an ill-fated photo of the singer from behind her. At her snap, the top of her dress separated from the bottom of her dress, revealing some strips of fabric and some of Perry's dress.
Any other year, Perry's open dress would be the most discussed, but her fashion remains relatively obscure because it happened around the same time as the biggest Oscars in history, when La La Land was announced. erroneously as the best film winner due to an envelope mix-up.
Blanca Blanco
Blanca Blanco, star of dark films like Teen Star Academy, is probably best known for a wardrobe malfunction at the 2017 Academy Awards. She attended with her boyfriend, actor John Savage (who starred in Oscar-winning films like The Hunter of Stags and The Godfather: Part III,) and she arrived in an elegant greenish-yellow piece.
The gigantic poofs of fabric on her shoulders and around her neck were eye-catching, but they didn't distract much from the dress's incredible high-cut slit…revealing Blanco's swimsuit area. She wasn't going to do a commando under the dress, but she was wearing an outfit that matched her skin color so well that it looked like she was showing off White to everyone on the red carpet.
She had no idea that she had revealed her (or more) underw**r and it made a viral splash until her phone began to explode during the Oscars ceremony. "When I was watching the show, people would text me and say, 'You're like everywhere, they say you don't have any underw**r,'" Blanco told the Daily Mail. "I'm so embarrassed."
In a twist of tragic irony, Blanco reportedly used the dress as the centerpiece of a calculated effort to land on a "Best Dressed" list. After all, her 2015 Oscars outfit—a flowing, oddly made red-and-black gown of hers had earned her a spot on more than one "Worst Dressed" list. "I was hoping this year would be different," she said.
