Kim Kardashian has worn to the Met Gala the original dress that Marilyn Monroe wore on May 19, 1962
Kim Kardashian's look for the 2022 Met Gala came with a very strict diet plan. The star has revealed that she had to change her body to fit into Marilyn Monroe's most iconic gown, the one the movie legend wore during her famous Happy Birthday rendition, Mr. President in tribute to John F. Kennedy in Madison Square Garden during a Democratic event on May 19, 1962, just three months before the actress's death.
Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian traveled to Orlando, Florida, last week to visit Ripley's Believe It or Not museum, where the garment has been kept since it was purchased at auction for $4.8 million in 2016, and make sure it could Get into it before the biggest night in fashion. Although Kim managed to pull it off, it must have been a lot of effort since apparently at the time they had to sew the dress onto Monroe's own body. The design was a work by Jean Louis based on a sketch by Bob Mackie and originally cost $1,440.
"The idea came to me after the gala in September last year. I said to myself, what could I wear for the American theme that wasn't a Balenciaga look? What's the most American thing you can think of? And that's Marilyn Monroe," Kardashian revealed in an interview.
To achieve that result, Kim has said that she had to lose seven kilos in three weeks: "It was this or nothing," she said. The KKW Beauty founder explained that she "went into a sauna suit twice a day, ran on the treadmill, completely cut out sugar and carbs, and only ate the cleanest vegetables and proteins. So a month later, when she was in Ripley's files for the final fitting and the dress fit perfectly, she confessed, "I wanted to cry with joy," adding that she'll also cry with joy when she finally gets to eat an extra-large pizza at the end of the night.
