Sansa Stark didn't understand the traumatic moments during filming

Sophie Turner believes that she will have "some symptoms of trauma in the future" due to the intense scenes she had to film in Game of Thrones

Sophie Turner thinks her work on Game of Thrones will eventually take its toll on mental health. The actress who played Sansa Stark was involved in the series since she was 14 years old and, during the show's eight seasons, she was part of some of the strongest and most controversial scenes of the production covered by HBO.

Sansa Stark didn't understand the traumatic moments during filming

In that sense, during a recent conversation with Jessica Chastain for The Cut, Turner reflected on his time on Game of Thrones and said that during the filming of the series he learned to have fun between takes so as not to feel the weight of the issues that were addressed in the adaptation of the books by George R. R. Martin.

"It's very weird. I don't, but it's pretty easy for me to get in and out, ”She Turner replied when asked about how she disassociates herself from her characters. “You saw it in X-Men, between takes, singing and dancing together. It helps to have people around who are also willing to get out of it. And it's something that growing up on a show like Game of Thrones, with subject matter that was so heavy, that I developed a survival mechanism to have as much fun as possible between takes, so as not to traumatize myself."

Although Turner's character was left as Queen of the North after Game of Thrones, Sansa's path to that position was long and tortuous. After all, after the death of her father, the eldest of the Stark sisters was left at the mercy of ruthless figures who abused her in different ways such as Joffrey Baratheon, Cersei Lannister, Petyr Baelish, and Ramsey Bolton.

With that consideration, when asked if her work on Game of Thrones still affects her, Turner revealed that she believes that one day that experience at such a young age will take its toll on her.

“I am sure that I will present some symptoms of trauma in the future,” said the actress. “At that age,e I don't think I could understand much of the scenes. And the first years, she had my mom with me because she accompanied me, so she would help me a lot and she would give me snacks ”.

Turner is not the first actress to speak about the negative impact of filming Game of Thrones on her mental health and while Maisie Williams recently addressed the resentment she experienced with Arya, Hannah Waddingham recounted the traumatic filming of the death of Septa Unella and even Iwan Rheon described the filming of the scene where Ramsey raped Sansa as one of the worst moments of his career.
