The actress of the acclaimed HBO series has been fighting depression for six years because of the criticism of the fans of "Game of Thrones"
Turner was 15 years old when she arrived on the HBO show in 2011. Before long, the British actress began receiving negative comments that affected her mental health.
"I just started to believe it. She told me, 'Yes, I have pimples. I'm fat. I'm a bad actress.' I believed it," Turner said in an interview with Dr. Phil. She added: "She was telling the wardrobe crew to tighten my corset."
As a result of the criticism that she received on the networks, she began to have symptoms of depression. "I have suffered from depression for five or six years. The biggest challenge for me is getting out of bed and leaving the house. Learning to love yourself is the biggest challenge," she revealed.
Turner has been fighting mental problems since she was 17 years old, and although she assures that she would be incapable of harming herself, it is true that at some point she came to think of taking her own life: "I used to think a lot about suicide. The truth is that I don't know why. Maybe it's just a weird fascination I used to have, but yeah, I thought so."
On her relationship with Joe Jonas
Sophie is currently in a romantic relationship with musician Joe Jonas. The couple got engaged in 2017 and, as she confesses, her relationship has helped her a lot.
"Now I'm with someone who I guess makes me realize that I have some positive flukes. And when someone says they love you every day, it makes you really think about what it is and makes you love yourself a little bit more." said the actress.
Currently, she takes medication to combat depression and feels "much better."
