Elvis Presley became the King of Rock not only because of his songs but also because of the movies in which he performed them, becoming a movie star.
Rey Criollo / The neighborhood against me
King Creole or Rey Criollo (also titled The neighborhood against me), is considered the best film in the career of Elvis Presley, who even mentioned that his favorite role was that of Danny Fisher. The film follows a 19-year-old boy who gets involved with some criminals and two women.
It is based on the novel A Stone for Danny Fisher, and it marked a change in perspective for Presley: he was no longer just a singer who wanted to be an actor, but his true ability was seen on screen. One fact that you may not have known is that during his time it was noticed that Presley was able to receive an extension of his military service to be able to film the tape.
Fire Star
Flaming Star has another of the great interpretations of Elvis Presley and that marked him as one of the best young actors of the decade. In this western, he plays Pacer Burton, the Creole son of a native mother and a Texan father who works as a rancher. The young man is left in the middle of two worlds when a group of natives attacks some properties.
Also featured in the film are Barbara Eden and Dolores del Río, and while it also has musical elements, it has all the essence of a Western of the time. Quentin Tarantino pointed it out as one of the best Western tapes.
Long live Las Vegas
Another of Elvis Presley's best works is Viva Las Vegas, with many remembering the perfect dynamic between the singer and his co-star Ann-Margret. The film follows Lucky Jackson, a car driver who goes to the city to participate in his first Grand Prix, however, he suffers a series of misfortunes that makes him work in a hotel.
It is, in short, the best musical in Elvis Presley's filmography, moving naturally from one moment to another in history, with a pretty solid romance story, plus it has quite a few of the singer's classics.
Jail Rock
One of the most remembered by the singer's followers. Prison Rock follows Presley as Vince Everett, a convict who learns to play the guitar in prison and, after his release, becomes famous with his songs.
Of course, an iconic moment is the opening sequence where we see all the essence of the singer, and although it did not generate such good reviews when it was released, today it is considered one of the best in his career.
Love me Tender
Love Me Tender marked the beginning of Elvis Presley's film career, released in 1956. The film follows three Confederate brothers who attack a Union train unaware that the civil war ended days before. Elvis plays Vance, who decides to try to return the money to avoid trouble with the law.
Although it did not have the best reception by critics, some pointed to Presley's acting abilities and represented a foundation that the singer would follow for the next decade.
